We watched a documentary about volcanos using our netflix!
Watching some awesome footage of volcanos erupting.
                                 Science Experiment Time

                                          MAKING A VOLCANO
                                                 Soapy water
                                                  Red colored vinegar
                                                  Baking soda in a tissue
                                                  Shake bottle and stand back...

All ready for the volcano...

It's erupting...
Wow... that is sooooo cool!

Oops... Simone played with the bottle and more shot out into her face!
Don't worry... she was okay!

In order to explain what ash was - we burned a piece of paper.
Ash was blowing off the paper and and flying in the wind.

Spelling Chair

Our spelling chair is a little rocking chair.
The kids sit there and practice their spelling words.
They study thier flashcards and then spell them aloud to me.
Having a special spelling chair helps them concentrate.

Simone is in her spelling outfit :)
(The fan is from Japan where her cousins live!)

Edison is wearing his spelling mohawk!

mmmmm... pumpkin pie

We are making some very delicious homemade pumpkin pie!

First the kids had to gut the pumpkin and pull out all the seeds.
"Gross!"
" Yucky!"
"Can I go wash my hands!"

I had to cut the pumpkin up so I could boil it on the stove.

Simone is pretending to eat raw pumpkin!

Eddie actually tries it... its not very good!

The kids are making the crust.

Eli is searching the fridge for the pie... but he won't find it... Mommy ate it ALL :)

WHAT?? School on Saturday...

Vocabulary word - Parade

Many many many times there have been books with a parade in it... and I get asked - "What is a parade?"

The children didn't understand the concept even though I explained it over and over again.

Finally... the opportunity arose - their cousin was in a parade - and the kids found out what a parade really was:)

Waiting for the parade to come down the street!

Eli has the best seat on the street!

Putting rhyming words together.

Science Field Trip

We went to the bird warehouse store and actually held a bird!!
They also got to see little baby birds being fed with a syringe!!
Edison is holding a sweet little bird.

Andre was not quite brave enough to actually hold the bird!

Simone loved holding the bird!

Hands - on FUN

I've created (printed from the internet) many hands on activities for the kids to do.

Edison is coloring the even numbers on our dry-erase number chart.
Then he sorted the number pumpkins into even and odd wagons.

Andre is finding lowercase letter wheels for his alphabet train cards.

Simone is matching contractions to their proper words.

Edison is practicing his addition and subtraction facts with Avatar and Ironman flashcards.

Elijah is practicing standing!

Spelling - They are using their old sightword cards to play a spelling game.
Eddie pulls a card from Simone and she has to spell it.  If she gets it wrong she has to put it back in her hand - if its spelled correctly it goes into a pile in the middle.
Then it is Eddie's turn... and so on...

Sight Word Treasure Box

Reading sight words can be boring and hard - so I spiced it up and turned it into a fun game.

1. Choose sightwords and have them written on strips of paper.
2. Put them into a treasure box or other fun container.
3. Have kids put on costumes.
4. Children pull out sightwords at their own pace and read them.
5. Help them individually as needed.

Edison reading

Andre pretending to read

Modified game for Andre - reading ABC letters

Writing and coloring 7 new sightwords they learned.
